Global Citizens with National Pride

After a wonderful day of seeing a show or two, visiting the monuments up on Calton Hill just outside of Edinburgh, and a very successful performance on the Royal Mile, we trekked up to the Castle and got to watch the Royal Military Tattoo! The fireworks were shocking and brilliant. The themes of global inclusion were heart warming, and the level of skill demonstrated by the militaries from around the globe was mesmerizing. It started with individual nations performing fantastic stunts with truly stunning lighting and projections onto the castle. The drumming from the Top Secret Swiss Drum Core was one of my favorites. Why are they "Top Secret?" It remains a mystery to us.

(This is a photo from the bag pipe corps march, not the Super Secret Swiss)

Their tricks of throwing drumsticks through the air and playing each others drums, while marching in step and performing other stunts was unbelievable! The big finale with the lone piper high up on the castle followed by the crowd-loved “Scotland the Brave,” was a great way to end the night, with the fireworks flying high into the sky and keeping the cold winds tolerable as my soul seemed to soar with pride to be a citizen of a world that can still come together and share this great show of talent, skill, and acceptance together!
