Our Favorite Things

As our time in Scotland started to tick away, we all plunged deeper into Fringe life and the whirl of the Royal Mile. We saw a lot of shows, participated in the AHSTF closing cermony (where they lost all but one of our participation certificates, so...congratulations Bailey foe being our lone participant?), and just enjoyed on last jaunt around the city we've grown to love.

In the airport, I asked the kids to name their favorite memory from the trip. Here's what they said:

Julia: The Miltary Tattoo! Everything about it from the beautiful fireworks to the music to the projections on the castle walls. It was so much fun!

Lenin: Trying Irn Bru for the first time. [this homegrown Scottish soda which tastes like orange and bubble gum has nothing to do with Iron.]

Madison Hughes: Getting to see a show like Tar Baby, which was funny but also incredibly important, but then meeting the actor afterward and being friedly enough with her where we'd see her around town flyering and she'd always say hi.

Leo: Going to Starbucks! Ha ha, no. I liked performing our shows with a different audience every time. But our second show was the best.

Tommy: Climbing to the top of Arthur's Seat for the very first time. It's just so beautiful up there.

Bailey: Learning so much about the craft of acting and seeing shows like "The Solid Life of Sugar Water" which is the most amazing play I've seen.

Nathaniel: Just getting to see a lot of different types of plays and realizing how different plays can be--like Father Time, which was so visual, or The Heist which was completey simple technically, but that both succeeded in completely engaging their audiences.

Lydia: The performances. I was feeling pretty sick for the lastt half of the trip, but I forgot it all when I was on stage. It was a time to feel alive and just happy in the moment.

I'll try to collect a few more of these and add them to the list. All in all, a beautiful, unforgettable trip.
